Hackney Council

Sport Tech Hub partnered with the London Borough of Hackney, one of London’s 33 Local Authorities to run the Embracing the Future event series to explore the opportunity for digital technology and sport.

Using existing knowledge of Hackney’s priorities and strengths, and working with the Local Authority to identify focus areas, Sport Tech Hub worked through its own startup network to curate a programme of start-ups focused on challenging inactivity and enhancing community outcomes through sport and tech innovation.

London Borough of Hackney came to Sport Tech Hub seeking new ways to enhance the connection between tech start-ups and community groups through physical activity innovation.

Through the event series, over 200 community organisations experienced demonstrations from over 25 start-ups with products cutting across:

  1. Health – Prevention, Social Prescribing and Managing Remote Health
  2. Making it easier to increase participation
  3. Gamification of physical activity
  4. Enhancing operation of clubs, venues and session management

The event series led to live market-validation for new SportTech initiatives, leading to live connections for pilot project between local stakeholders, organisations and charities and start-ups

Through the event series, Hackney’s Leisure and Physical Activity Team was able to enhance the Local Authority’s connections to SportTech innovation

Partnerships between organisations and start-ups created at the event have continued to be in play.
